SCHOLARSHIP AWARDS PROGRAM

Tribal Wi-Chi-Way-Win Capital Corporation ("TWCC") hosts its Annual Fundraising Golf Tournament to raise funds for the TWCC Scholarship Awards Program. The program was established in 2005, and was designed to promote First Nation students in Manitoba pursuing a certificate, diploma, or degree in the Entrepreneurship/Business Development field. Candidates who indicate an interest in, but not limited to, Business Development, Marketing, Commerce, and Computer Programming will be considered.

This year, TWCC is pleased to announce that it will be partnering with the “Dreamcatcher Charitable Foundation.” The Dreamcatcher Charitable Foundation is a nationally recognized, registered charitable foundation dedicated to providing opportunities for aboriginal youth to reach their full potential.

APPLICATION REQUIREMENTS:

All applications must include an autobiography, status card, letter of reference and proof of acceptance in a recognized post-secondary institute. Incomplete applications will NOT be considered. The application form can be downloaded by clicking here.

  1. TWCC Scholarship Award Application, the application form can be downloaded by clicking here.
  2. Autobiography explaining the kind of work you want to pursue after graduation, your long-term career goals, and why you believe you should be selected to receive the award.
  3. Letter of reference, written by someone from your institution of study, or from your community.
  4. Proof of acceptance into a recognized post-secondary institute.
  5. Copy of Status Card.

WHO CAN APPLY?

  • Any First Nation Youth in Manitoba who is 35 years old or under.
  • Enrolled in, but not limited to, a Business Development program, or others mentioned above, through a recognized post-secondary institution

APPLICATION PROCESS & SELECTION OF RECIPIENTS:

The selection process will be administered by the Dreamcatcher Charitable Foundation to efficiently distribute the funds to individuals on the basis of need in a transparent manner. Specific guidelines are followed, free from internal bias and verified through proper due diligence

  • TWCC will provide The Dreamcatcher Foundation with all scholarship applications.
  • The Dreamcatcher Charitable Foundation will review and select the successful candidates using their established criteria.
  • Each successful candidate will be notified by TWCC of their Scholarship Award.

2010 SCHOLARSHIP WINNERS

Jerry Daniels

Jerry Daniels

A member of the Long Plain First Nation, Jerry currently holds a degree in economics. He is pursuing his Masters degree in Aboriginal Governance at the University of Winnipeg. Already a proven leader in the community, Jerry has held various Regional and National youth leadership positions. He is currently Regional Youth Leader for Manitoba First Nation Youth Council. After completion of his Masters degree Jerry would like to promote Aboriginal self-determination through economic and social development.

Paul McCartan

Paul McCartan

Paul is a 26-year-old student attending the University’s Inner City Campus. A member of the Lake Manitoba First Nations Paul is currently entering his final year of studies in education. Following graduation Paul would like to create aboriginal youth programming to assist with leadership development while be begins his teaching career.

Marly Funk

Marly Funk

Marly is entering her first year of Computer Applications for Business Program at Red River Community College. This mother of 4 is a recent graduate of the Aboriginal Community Campus and is a member of Red Sucker Lake. Her long-term goal is to have a career in finance management.

Calvin Wood

Calvin Wood

This father of three is entering his third year of studies at the University of Manitoba. After he achieves his Bachelor of Commerce Degree his goal is to become a Certified Management Accountant. This God’s Lake First Nation member has a long-term goal to set up his own Aboriginal business.

Nicole York

Nicole York

Nicole looks to complete her final year of studies this year at the University of Winnipeg’s Aboriginal Governance Program. From Norway House First Nation, Nicole would like to return to her community after graduation to increase community living standards and decrease the marginalization of Aboriginal people.
